These past 2-3 weeks daas had the sobhaag of doing sangat of Baba Jagbir Singh jee from New Jersey. Baba jee has been in sangat of Baba Thakur Singh jee at Damdami Taksal and was here to do seva of giving santhiya to those interested. After reading Bhai Kulbir Singh jee's post here: [gurmatbibek.com] , just an idea came to mind. Can we do vichaar on the Baani of "ਪਟੀ ਲਿਖੀ‏" where SatGuru Patshah jee so beautifully refers to the bliss behind every letter.

Bhai Kulbir Singh jee, you will be the best person for this, or atleast to initiate and give all of us laaha.

Raag Aasaa, First Mehl, Patee Likhee ~ The Poem Of The Alphabet:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸਸੈ ਸੋਇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Sassa: He who created the world, is the One Lord and Master of all.

ਸੇਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥
Those whose consciousness remains committed to His Service - blessed is their birth and their coming into the world. ||1||

ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਮੂੜ ਮਨਾ ॥
O mind, why forget Him? You foolish mind!

ਜਬ ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਬੀਰਾ ਤਉ ਪੜਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
When your account is adjusted, O brother, only then shall you be judged wise. ||1||Pause||

ਈਵੜੀ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
Eevree: The Primal Lord is the Giver; He alone is True.

ਏਨਾ ਅਖਰਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
No accounting is due from the Gurmukh who understands the Lord through these letters. ||2||

ਊੜੈ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ Ooraa: Sing the Praises of the One whose limit cannot be found.

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Those who perform service and practice truth, obtain the fruits of their rewards. ||3||

ਙੰਙੈ ਙਿਆਨੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਪੜਿਆ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
Nganga: One who understands spiritual wisdom becomes a Pandit, a religious scholar.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥
One who recognizes the One Lord among all beings does not talk of ego. ||4||

ਕਕੈ ਕੇਸ ਪੁੰਡਰ ਜਬ ਹੂਏ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਾਬੂਣੈ ਉਜਲਿਆ ॥
Kakka: When the hair grows grey, then it shines without shampoo.

ਜਮ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੇ ਹੇਰੂ ਆਏ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਲਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੫॥
The hunters of the King of Death come, and bind him in the chains of Maya. ||5||

ਖਖੈ ਖੁੰਦਕਾਰੁ ਸਾਹ ਆਲਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਖਰੀਦਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
Khakha: The Creator is the King of the world; He enslaves by giving nourishment.

ਬੰਧਨਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਅਵਰੀ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੬॥
By His Binding, all the world is bound; no other Command prevails. ||6||

ਗਗੈ ਗੋਇ ਗਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਗਲੀ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਗਰਬਿ ਭਇਆ ॥
Gagga: One who renounces the singing of the songs of the Lord of the Universe, becomes arrogant in his speech.

ਘੜਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਵੀ ਸਾਜੀ ਚਾੜਣ ਵਾਹੈ ਤਈ ਕੀਆ ॥੭॥
One who has shaped the pots, and made the world the kiln, decides when to put them in it. ||7||

ਘਘੈ ਘਾਲ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਘਾਲੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
Ghagha: The servant who performs service, remains attached to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਜੇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਮਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੮॥
One who recognizes bad and good as one and the same - in this way he is absorbed into the Lord and Master. ||8||

ਚਚੈ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਾ ॥
Chacha: He created the four Vedas, the four sources of creation, and the four ages -

ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਖਾਣੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਪੜਿਆ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਆਪਿ ਥੀਆ ॥੯॥
through each and every age, He Himself has been the Yogi, the enjoyer, the Pandit and the scholar. ||9||

ਛਛੈ ਛਾਇਆ ਵਰਤੀ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ॥
Chhachha: Ignorance exists within everyone; doubt is Your doing, O Lord.

ਭਰਮੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥੧੦॥
Having created doubt, You Yourself cause them to wander in delusion; those whom You bless with Your Mercy meet with the Guru. ||10||

ਜਜੈ ਜਾਨੁ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭੀਖ ਭਵਿਆ ॥
Jajja: That humble being who begs for wisdom has wandered begging through 8.4 million incarnations.

ਏਕੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਏਕੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਮੈ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
The One Lord takes away, and the One Lord gives; I have not heard of any other. ||11||

ਝਝੈ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੇਣਾ ਸੁ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Jhajha: O mortal being, why are you dying of anxiety? Whatever the Lord is to give, He shall keep on giving.

ਦੇ ਦੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
He gives, and gives, and watches over us; according to the Orders which He issues, His beings receive nourishment. ||12||

ਞੰਞੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Nyanya: When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then I do not behold any other.

ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਏਕੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੧੩॥
The One Lord is totally pervading everywhere; the One Lord abides within the mind. ||13||

ਟਟੈ ਟੰਚੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਘੜੀ ਕਿ ਮੁਹਤਿ ਕਿ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ॥
Tatta: Why do you practice hypocrisy, O mortal? In a moment, in an instant, you shall have to get up and depart.

ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰਹੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਜਿ ਪੜਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾ ॥੧੪॥
Don't lose your life in the gamble - hurry to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||14||

ਠਠੈ ਠਾਢਿ ਵਰਤੀ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
T'hat'ha: Peace pervades within those who link their consciousness to the Lord's Lotus Feet.

ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਤਉ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
Those humble beings, whose consciousness is so linked, are saved; by Your Grace, they obtain peace. ||15||

ਡਡੈ ਡੰਫੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਚਲਣਾ ॥
Dadda: Why do you make such ostentatious shows, O mortal? Whatever exists, shall all pass away.

ਤਿਸੈ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧੬॥
So serve Him, who is contained and pervading among everyone, and you shall obtain peace. ||16||

ਢਢੈ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੈ ਆਪੇ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਕਰੇ ॥
Dhadha: He Himself establishes and disestablishes; as it pleases His Will, so does He act.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧੭॥
Having created the creation, He watches over it; He issues His Commands, and emancipates those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace. ||17||

ਣਾਣੈ ਰਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
Nanna: One whose heart is filled with the Lord, sings His Glorious Praises.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੮॥
One whom the Creator Lord unites with Himself, is not consigned to reincarnation. ||18||

ਤਤੈ ਤਾਰੂ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Tatta: The terrible world-ocean is so very deep; its limits cannot be found.

ਨਾ ਤਰ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹਮ ਬੂਡਸਿ ਤਾਰਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਤਾਰਣ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧੯॥
I do not have a boat, or even a raft; I am drowning - save me, O Savior King! ||19||

ਥਥੈ ਥਾਨਿ ਥਾਨੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਆ ॥
T'hat'ha: In all places and interspaces, He is; everything which exists, is by His doing.

ਕਿਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ॥੨੦॥
What is doubt? What is called Maya? Whatever pleases Him is good. ||20||

ਦਦੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਊ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਆਪਣਿਆ ॥
Dadda: Do not blame anyone else; blame instead your own actions.

ਜੋ ਮੈ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਅਵਰ ਜਨਾ ॥੨੧॥
Whatever I did, for that I have suffered; I do not blame anyone else. ||21||

ਧਧੈ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਲਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਜੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਰੰਗ ਕੀਆ ॥
Dhadha: His power established and upholds the earth; the Lord has imparted His color to everything.

ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਦੀਆ ਸਭਨੀ ਲੀਆ ਕਰਮੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੨੨॥
His gifts are received by everyone; all act according to His Command. ||22||

ਨੰਨੈ ਨਾਹ ਭੋਗ ਨਿਤ ਭੋਗੈ ਨਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਨਾ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਲਿਆ ॥
Nanna: The Husband Lord enjoys eternal pleasures, but He is not seen or understood.

ਗਲੀ ਹਉ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਭੈਣੇ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਮੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥੨੩॥
I am called the happy soul-bride, O sister, but my Husband Lord has never met me. ||23||

ਪਪੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਵੇਖਣ ਕਉ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
Pappa: The Supreme King, the Transcendent Lord, created the world, and watches over it.

ਦੇਖੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨੪॥
He sees and understands, and knows everything; inwardly and outwardly, he is fully pervading. ||24||

ਫਫੈ ਫਾਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਾਸਾ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਲਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
Faffa: The whole world is caught in the noose of Death, and all are bound by its chains.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇ ਨਰ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਭਜਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੨੫॥
By Guru's Grace, they alone are saved, who hurry to enter the Lord's Sanctuary. ||25||

ਬਬੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲਣ ਲਾਗਾ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਾ ॥
Babba: He set out to play the game, on the chess-board of the four ages.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਲਣਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੬॥
He made all beings and creatures his chessmen, and He Himself threw the dice. ||26||

ਭਭੈ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਭਉ ਪਇਆ ॥
Bhabha: Those who search, find the fruits of their rewards; by Guru's Grace, they live in the Fear of God.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੨੭॥
The self-willed manmukhs wander around, and they do not remember the Lord; the fools are consigned to the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations. ||27||

ਮੰਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਬ ਚੇਤਵਿਆ ॥
Mamma: In emotional attachment, he dies; he only thinks of the Lord, the Love of Nectar, when he dies.

ਕਾਇਆ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਅਵਰੋ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੰਮਾ ਅਖਰੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੨੮॥
As long as the body is alive, he reads other things, and forgets the letter 'm', which stands for marnaa - death. ||28||

ਯਯੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਕਦ ਹੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
Yaya: He is never reincarnated again, if he recognizes the True Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨੯॥
The Gurmukh speaks, the Gurmukh understands, and the Gurmukh knows only the One Lord. ||29||

ਰਾਰੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਜੰਤਾ ॥
Rarra: The Lord is contained among all; He created all beings.

ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਸਭ ਲਾਏ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੩੦॥
Having created His beings, He has put them all to work; they alone remember the Naam, upon whom He bestows His Grace. ||30||

ਲਲੈ ਲਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
Lalla: He has assigned people to their tasks, and made the love of Maya seem sweet to them.

ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਸਹਣਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੩੧॥
We eat and drink; we should endure equally whatever occurs, by His Will, by His Command. ||31||

ਵਵੈ ਵਾਸੁਦੇਉ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਵੇਖਣ ਕਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਵੇਸੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
Wawa: The all-pervading Transcendent Lord beholds the world; He created the form it wears.

ਵੇਖੈ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੩੨॥
He beholds, tastes, and knows everything; He is pervading and permeating inwardly and outwardly. ||32||

ੜਾੜੈ ਰਾੜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਹੋਆ ॥
Rarra: Why do you quarrel, O mortal? Meditate on the Imperishable Lord,

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ਓਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੩੩॥
worship Him and be absorbed into the True One. Become a sacrifice to Him. ||33||

ਹਾਹੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੀਆ ॥
Haha: There is no other Giver than Him; having created the creatures, He gives them nourishment.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਆ ॥੩੪॥
Meditate on the Lord's Name, be absorbed into the Lord's Name, and night and day, reap the Profit of the Lord's Name. ||34||

ਆਇੜੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Airaa: He Himself created the world; whatever He has to do, He continues to do.

ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਇਰ ਇਵ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੩੫॥੧॥
He acts, and causes others to act, and He knows everything; so says Nanak, the poet. ||35||1||

ਅਯੋ ਅੰਙੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਆਇਆ ਕਾਖੈ ਘੰਙੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Ayo, Angai: The whole world which was created - Kaahkai, Ghangai: It shall pass away.

ਰੀਰੀ ਲਲੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਪੜਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
Reeree, Laalee: People commit sins, and falling into vice, forget virtue. ||1||

ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਪੜਿਆ ॥
O mortal, why have you studied such an account,

ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
which shall call you to answer for payment? ||1||Pause||

ਸਿਧੰਙਾਇਐ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੰਨੈ ਨਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥
Sidhan, Ngaayiyai: You do not remember the Lord. Nanna: You do not take the Lord's Name.

ਛਛੈ ਛੀਜਹਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਜਮਿ ਪਾਕੜਿਆ ॥੨॥
Chhachha: You are wearing away, every night and day; you fool, how will you find release? You are held in the grip of death. ||2||

ਬਬੈ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
Babba: You do not understand, you fool; deluded by doubt, you are wasting your life.

ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਓ ਪਾਧਾ ਅਵਰਾ ਕਾ ਭਾਰੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੩॥
Without justification, you call yourself a teacher; thus you take on the loads of others. ||3||

ਜਜੈ ਜੋਤਿ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿਗਾ ॥
Jajja: You have been robbed of your Light, you fool; in the end, you shall have to depart, and you shall regret and repent.

ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਵਹਿਗਾ ॥੪॥
You have not remembered the One Word of the Shabad, and so you shall have to enter the womb over and over again. ||4||

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੜੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਵਰਾ ਨੋ ਨ ਸਿਖਾਲਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ॥
Read that which is written on your forehead, O Pandit, and do not teach wickedness to others.

ਪਹਿਲਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਪਇਆ ਪਾਧੇ ਪਿਛੋ ਦੇ ਗਲਿ ਚਾਟੜਿਆ ॥੫॥
First, the teacher is tied down, and then, the noose is placed around the pupil's neck. ||5||

ਸਸੈ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਗਇਓ ਮੂੜੇ ਏਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਕੁਥਾਇ ਲਇਆ ॥
Sassa: You have lost your self-discipline, you fool, and you have accepted an offering under false pretenses.

ਸਾਈ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਜਜਮਾਨ ਕੀ ਸਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਏਤੁ ਧਾਨਿ ਖਾਧੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥੬॥
The daughter of the alms-giver is just like your own; by accepting this payment for performing the wedding ceremony, you have cursed your own life. ||6||

ਮੰਮੈ ਮਤਿ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਪਇਆ ॥
Mamma: You have been cheated out your intellect, you fool, and you are afflicted with the great disease of ego.

ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੭॥
Within your innermost self, you do not recognize God, and you compromise yourself for the sake of Maya. ||7||

ਕਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਭਰਮਿਓਹੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ॥
Kakka: You wander around in sexual desire and anger, you fool; attached to possessiveness, you have forgotten the Lord.

ਪੜਹਿ ਗੁਣਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਤੂੰ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਆ ॥੮॥
You read, and reflect, and proclaim out loud, but without understanding, you are drowned to death. ||8||

ਤਤੈ ਤਾਮਸਿ ਜਲਿਓਹੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਥਥੈ ਥਾਨ ਭਰਿਸਟੁ ਹੋਆ ॥
Tatta: In anger, you are burnt, you fool. T'hat'ha: That place where you live, is cursed.

ਘਘੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੂੜੇ ਦਦੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਤੁਧੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੯॥
Ghagha: You go begging from door to door, you fool. Dadda: But still, you do not receive the gift. ||9||

ਪਪੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਵਹੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Pappa: You shall not be able to swim across, you fool, since you are engrossed in worldly affairs.

ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਓਹੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਇਹੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਲੇਖੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
The True Lord Himself has ruined you, you fool; this is the destiny written on your forehead. ||10||

ਭਭੈ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੁਬੋਹੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਗਲਤਾਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Bhabha: You have drowned in the terrifying world-ocean, you fool, and you have become engrossed in Maya.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
One who comes to know
the One Lord, by Guru's Grace, is carried across in an instant. ||11||

ਵਵੈ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਈਆ ਮੂੜੇ ਵਾਸੁਦੇਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥
Wawa: Your turn has come, you fool, but you have forgotten the Lord of Light.

ਏਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਨ ਲਹਸਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
This opportunity shall not come again, you fool; you shall fall under the power of the Messenger of Death. ||12||

ਝਝੈ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਝੂਰਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਖਾ ॥
Jhajha: You shall never have to regret and repent, you fool, if you listen to the Teachings of the True Guru, for even an instant.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਬੁਰਾ ॥੧੩॥
Without the True Guru, there is no Guru at all; one who is without a Guru has a bad reputation. ||13||

ਧਧੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਖੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਇਆ ॥
Dhadha: Restrain your wandering mind, you fool; deep within you the treasure is to be found.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਹਿ ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
When one becomes Gurmukh, then he drinks in the sublime essence of the Lord; throughout the ages, he continues to drink it in. ||14||

ਗਗੈ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਗਲੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gagga: Keep the Lord of the Universe in your mind, you fool; by mere words, no one has ever attained Him.

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਮੂੜੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਨਹ ਸਭ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
Enshrine the Guru's feet within your heart, you fool, and all your past sins shall be forgiven. ||15||

ਹਾਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਬੂਝੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੂੜੇ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ Haha: Understand the Lord's Sermon, you fool; only then shall you attain eternal peace.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪੜਹਿ ਤੇਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੬॥
The more the self-willed manmukhs read, the more pain they suffer. Without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||16||

ਰਾਰੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Rarra: Center your consciousness on the Lord, you fool; abide with those whose hearts are filled with the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਰਾਮੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਬੂਝਿ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧੭॥
By Guru's Grace, those who recognize the Lord, understand the absolute Lord. ||17||

ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਅਕਥੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਿਆ ॥
Your limits cannot be known; the indescribable Lord cannot be described.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਿਬੜਿਆ ॥੧੮॥੧॥੨॥
O Nanak, whose who have met the True Guru, have their accounts settled. ||18||1||2||

Guru Sahib Kirpa karan, in the coming future we will do Vichaar of this Baani. Doing Paath both "Pattee" Baanis is a pleasure. Hopefully these Baanis will be added to the Sundar Gutka app so that Gursikhs around the world can have easy access to them.

It does not begin with the letter sassa nor is based on any previous script.

The existing and most popular scripts at the time were Arabic/farsi and Sansrkit. Both scripts have an alphabat which start with the letter A. This bani does not start with letter A . In addition, the number of alphabets ( letters) which exist in this bani does not correspond to existing scripts of that time; therefore, we can conclude its not based on existing scripts.

The bani does not start with sassa instead it starts with the same letter which is used in most banis of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The letter that cant be described or expalined. The letter which has no form.

The bani start with the numera One and the formless letter ਓਅੰ ਕਾਰ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਟੀ ਲਿਖੀ

ਓਅੰ ਕਾਰ should not be mistaken with the letter ਓ

The sakhi behind this bani mentions how Sri Guru Ji was one day reading the some verses from the Gita in his class. His parents were pleased but they could not understand the message of these sanskrit verses. Sri Guru Ji explained how Krishna was explaining to his beloved disciple Arjan how the first letter in the vedas are ਓਅੰ ਕਾਰ. The vedas start off with the notion there are many names attibuted to God, but God is without form Krishna was telling Arjan that the beginning words ( ਓਅੰਕਾਰ) in the Vedas are not written visibly and are only known secretly.
Meaning the unwriten letters ( ਓਅੰ ਕਾਰ, eko naam) are not visible in the vedas.

The unwritten letter can only be revealed through the grace of the true guru ( ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ). These letters are not subject to the trigun and can never be destroyed as compared to the other letters and scripts which are subject to destruction.

ਏ ਅਖਰ ਖਿਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਓਇ ਅਖਰ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਟੀ ਲਿਖੀ seems the most important Banee that has been little researched in the past 150 yrs. It seems the begining of Banee from "Why does it start on letter Sassa" and concluding with Aaera is very significant. It likely sums up the Sikh perspective of the visible world spectrum between the two Alphabets ends Sa and Aaa. It also hightlights the importance of/encouragment triggers (1) Learning Alphabets (ਏਨਾ ਅਖਰਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ Eaenaa Akharaa Mehi Jo Guramukh Boojhai This Sir Laekh N Hoee ||2|) and (2) learning from the SatGuru JiO only, rather then adapted primers. It will be interesting to learn from Sngt How ? ਈਵੜੀ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ Eevarree Aadh Purakh Hai Dhaathaa Aapae Sachaa Soee || From the shape of the alphabets if it is easy to reflect how ਈ and ਆ are similar.
