book(s) for a Western non-Sikh jigyasu

Posted by Mehtab Singh
Please suggest some books that can be recommended to a non-Sikh, preferably a Westerner (gora) to read about Sikhism. It can be more than one book, and it might as well cover various aspects of Sikhi, such as philosophy, history, Gurbani, Gurmat, etc. whatever other aspects one can think of.

Level 1 : This book gives a short summary but in general cover most of the concept of Sikhism.
1st Suggested Book is a 36 Page PDF @ www.gurmatveechar.com under Literature-English-Books section.

This gives a short warm-up on Sikhism. Does not take much time to read (max 1 Hour) but at the same time gives you all round general knowledge on Sikhism. This PDF builds up a launchpad to explore more about Sikhism.

Book Name : Sikh.Gurus.Concepts.and.Culture
File Size : 9 MB (approx)

Level 2 : It is indeed a very difficult task to put Sikh philosophy, history, Gurbani, Gurmat ... in one book. But this book is a great effort by Veer Harjinder Singh Dilgeer.
2nd Suggested Book is 209 Page PDF @ www.gurmatveechar.com under Literature-English-Books section.

Book Name : Who Are The Sikhs By Harjinder Singh Dilgeer
File Size : 8 MB (approx)

Veerji/bhainji, it is better to not promote dilgeer. He has now become a very prominent heretic Kala Afghanist spreading much koor. His old books were good, but now he is a totally different man. He does not even beleive in Chaupi Sahib as bani.

I think the English books by Surinder Singh Kohli are pretty good for a Jagiasoo of any level. They are too the point, yet informative and inline with Gurmat.
