ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
Those who do not affirm their Guru shall have no home or place of rest.

ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਏ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥
They lose both this world and the next; they have no place in the Court of the Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਿਆ means to hide your Guru i.e. to hide your Sikhi identity and this way hide your Guru, for whatever reason. If a Sikh refuses to acknowledge his Guru, whether by speech (by denying having a Guru) or by actions (hiding your Sikhi identity) then this Pankiti would apply on such person. The repurcussions of doing so are very severe. One loses face in the next world and does not find place to rest anywhere in the creation.

It depends on one's intentions. If one is ashamed of wearing Siri Sahib from above, and has no restrictions (legal etc.) on wearing it above, then to some extent such person may be accused of "Goping" his Guru.
