Duniya dee Khushi Ghami

Few days ago, a sweet child was kidnapped in BC, Canada. The whole country was concerned for the well-being of this toddler. Today, thankfully, he has been found unharmed. The parents went through a terrible ordeal. Imagine how they would have lived the four days of hell, when their son was kidnapped. They were shedding tears, endlessly, due to the sorrow of separation of their child. Now that their son has come back home, they can't control their tears that have been generated from this wonderful Khushi. Vismaad!

We are very happy for the child and his family. Over the last days, the concern for this child stayed in the mind and the mind was horrified to learn that this child had possibly been kidnapped by a sexual predator. Chalo, Shukar hai, the child is safe.

Duniya is Vismaad! Dukh, Sukh, Sanjog, Vijog, etc. are extreme sources of Vismaad.

Some are mourning their loved ones who have died and at the same time some are rejoicing newborns in their family. In some homes at a given time there is a moment of intense Khushi (happiness) and at the same time the neighbours may be enduring extreme Ghami (sadness). Some are laughing, some are crying, some are sleeping, some are awake, some are standing some are sitting, some are rejoicing and some are mourning. What a Vismaad this world is?

The Jeev is totally entangled in Maya's trap. One moment he is super happy and the next moment he loses some possession and cries inconsolably. We are not stable at all. Our happiness and our sadness are temporary. Neither our Khushi is stable and eternal nor our Ghami (sadness).

Aren't we sick of this constant change in our life - sometimes we are happy and sometimes sad? Why can't happiness just stay with us all the time? Is there a way to find eternal happiness? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

Gurbani says that worldly Khushi and Ghami are transient but Anand that is acquired from Naam and Gurbani is permanent but what is required is to reside Naam in Hirda. Gurbani says that after meeting the True Guru, both Halat (this world) and Palat (the next world) become full of happiness.

(Embellish your this world and the next one by placing Naam inside your Hirda)

May Guru Sahib enshrine Gurmat Naam in our Hirda, so that we may find eternal Anand and stop rotating between worldly states of Sukh and Dukh. Now that we know that eternal happiness can be found from Gurbani and Naam, shouldn't we just go crazy over collecting Laaha of Naam and Gurbani? How many Paaths of Gurbani are enough? Limitless. How much Naam Abhyaas is enough? No quantity or amount of Naam Abhyaas is enough. We just have to go on and on and never stop chanting Naam.

Very well written Veerji and fully agreed,The worldly Khushi and Gammi are short termed and they exchange one into another in a flash. Just few months we heard that a family was doing "JAGGO" on the eve of marriage of their son - So khushi and then a truck ran over and killed few of the family members so it all turned into a Gammi.

Daas further thinks that this is all related to our attachments while we survive in the world. The Dukh of neighbour dying in the hospital wont be as much the sickness of the brother or other close one thousand kilometers away on the Globe. We hardly stop for a road accident to see the situation on the road when we know that none we know is involved in it and on the otherside when somone we know is involved in the accident we go running around. So its all about of worldly relations that causes these 2 situations of our mind -- Khushi and Gammi.

In order to come out of this and be in a state of continued Vismaad, we also have to come out of the worldy relations which Guru Sahib teaches us everywhere in Gurbani.

Vaheguru jee ka Khalsa Vaheguru jee kee fateh!

Desire is more powerful than fear - all in the mind.

: Guramukh aapanaa manu maariaa sabad kasavatee laai. Mann hee naal jhagarraa mann hee naal sath mann hee manjh samaai: Applying the Touchstone of the Shabad, by becoming the Gurmukh, the Gurmukh conqueres his mind (prevents it from falling in love with Maya, etc.). He fights with his mind (its evil inclinations: ਬਿਕਾਰ-ਬਿਰਤੀ), he settles with his mind (make his mind understand), and he becomes immersed (in the auspicious nature of: ਸ਼ੁਭ-ਬਿਰਤੀ) his mind (sggs 87).

Goal is to :
ਬਾਲ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਅਤੀਤ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥: Baal subhaae ateet oudhaasee: With a childlike, innocent nature, remain detached, turning away from the world (sggs 1076).

Guru Sahib has given the Hukum to be above SUkh and Dukh, but I think this is
on an individual level. In regards to the winder community, we should never stop being empathetic ( feeling others pain)
towards others. GUru Sahib has showed us through example that empathy and compassion
are Gurmat qualites. WHen the suffering Kashmiri Pundits came to Guru Sahib for help; Guru Ji relieved
them of their pain and sacrificed his life for their welfare. Also, Pehli Paatshah was furious with the Siddhas
who decided to renounce the sufferings of the world for the purpose of doing bhagti in the mountains.
