Nitnem After/During RanSubayee Kirtan

Posted by kaurs4
When part of a Ran Subayee Kirtan Smagam, when should one do their Nitnem? I've always gotten together with other bibian, some time after 12, and we do Nitnem together. I've also seen others, Bibian and Singhs, do this as well. Would this be considered not right, since one has not done ishnaan yet? I've always done this because I've been told to do Nitnem during Amritvela, and when Kirtan ends around 5-6am, that isn't really considered Amritvela anymore.

Also, after Kirtan, many eat langar. Is this also not considered right? Since you are eating after 12am, and have not done Nitnem or ishnaan?

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fatheh!

i had the exact same question!

this past weekend we had rainsabaee keertan in vancouver, and as usual after ardas, degh was distributed. however bhai chaupa singh ji's rehatnama about not taking "prasad" before "jap jaap" came in my mind, and it was 6am at this time (after ardas). i thought maybe we should take the degh home and do nitnem then have the degh?

then, also after ardas of the rainsabaee, around 6am, many people proceeded to have langar and i wasn't sure about this.

could some gursikhs please kindly clarify the maryada on this?

thanks

We, in europe do Nitnem straight after Ardaas of Rainsbai and after Ardaas of Nitnem we have Langar.

In the Deevan hall with microphone, where Kirtan takes place.

It is not appropriate to do Nitnem while the rainfall of Gurbani is going on in Ran Subaaee Kirtan. What is there in this world, that is more worthy than Akhand Kirtan Akhaada? When Akhand Kirtan all night is going on, at that time one should be actively engaged in looting the true profit of Naam and Gurbani Kirtan. Nitnem can be done later but the opportunity to earn Laaha of Ran Subaaee cannot be earned later.

Having said that, doing Nitnem during Ran Subaaee Kirtan is not a Kurehit though; just not wise. If Nitnem is done during Ran Subaaee Kirtan, then the Laaha of Nitnem will be earned but simultaneously Laaha of Kirtan will be lost but if Nitnem is done after Ran Subaaee Kirtan , then one would still get Laaha of Nitnem but without losing Laaha of Kirtan. So what's the wise thing to do? Do Nitnem after Ran Subaaee Kirtan and earn Laaha of both Kirtan and Nitnem.

The whole purpose of doing Ran Subaaee Kirtan is to sit through the Kirtan and earn true Laaha. Except for Langar Sewavaars, no one should be doing anything else during this most auspicious time. Nitnem is done after the Bhog Ardaas of Ran Subaaee. This is the Maryada Ranglay Sajjan - Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee and his companions - followed.

As for eating food after Ran Subaaee Kirtan, one should not eat Langar unless one has done one's morning Nitnem but Degh is an exception and can be consumed right after Ran Subaaee Kirtan. This again is based on life of Ranglay Sajjan - Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee and his companions.

I think the rehatnama you are referring to the word " parshaad"is
not referring to Degh. Generally speaking parshaad normally means deghs, but
is not limited to this definition. Parshaad is any food that has been prepared in Sarab Loh
batey by a Gursikh, and blessed through "Kirpan beyth". So the rehat is saying dont
eat any food without doing ones nitnem.

According to Maryada, degh should be distributed to sangat at the
end of any kirtan program; thus, there is no harm in partaking in degh
after rainsubaee as long as it is prepared according to maryada.

wjkk wjkf, khalsa jio,the maryada of degh is bring it not at the smapti of kirtan. If diwas suhla then in starting of kirtan and in rainsubayee after midnight.DASAM PATSHAHAS hukam was to sit around the degh and do kirtan by gursikhs.BY this bani make ras in it.THEN mixing of gurbani in degh make them amrit. And by means everyone to have take it after smapti of rainsbayee.DEGH WAS NOT GAVE US BY GURU JI. IT BRING BY SHRI GURU NANAK DEV JI FROM SACHKHAND. BHUL CHUK MUAF JI DASIN DASS

Just to clarify what has been posted above:

I should do Nitnem after the samapti of Kirtan. Does this also mean that after Kirtan, one should first do Ishnaan and then do Nitnem? Or, is it ok to do Nitnem after a Ran Subayee without doing Ishnaan first?
This is the case when the Ran Subayee Kirtan takes place at the Gurdwara. It is not possible to take an Ishnaan right then. So, can we still do Nitnem, or would it be better to wait until one gets home?

You must proceed morning Nitnem only after taking Gurmat-Ishnaan first.

Repeat the Mantra of the Guru 'Vaheguru'. Take your bath and then read your morning prayers.

In normal circumstances it is true that Nitnem should be done after Gurmat Ishnaan but in circumstances where Ishnaan can't be done immediately for whatever reasons, Nitnem can't be held off for that.

Singhs have been in jails where they could not do Ishnaan for many days but they did not hold off doing Nitnem Paaths. Many times, after Ran Subaaee Kirtan, Gursikhs have to travel back to their homes without doing Ishnaan. In such situations, it's not wrong to do Nitnem first. In many cases, it may take many hours to reach home and do Ishnaan but Nitnem should not be held off till that time. Nitnem should be done immediately at first opportunity after Ran Subaaee Kirtan.

Since Gursikhs stay awake during Ran Subaaee Kirtan and attentively listen to Gurbani and Naam, they are exempt from Amritvela Ishnaan which is required to purify the body and mind before Nitnem. Ishnaan still has to be done but is done after Ran Subaaee Kirtan, at first opportunity and Nitnem can't be held off till one gets opportunity to do Ishnaan.

To sum it up - both Gurmat Ishnaan and Nitnem should be done at first opportunity after Ran Subaaee Kirtan and the one should not be held for the other.

Guru Sahib knows better.

One should wait till one is done with Gurmat Ishnaan and Nitnem, before eating.
