Posted by Sukhdeep Singh

When a Christian, Secular , or an Atheist person meet one another and others they saw the following
greeting " Hi" or Hello". Hindus have a more polite greeting and say "Namaste" meaning I bow in respect. When a Jew meets someone they say" Shalom" which means peace. Similarly Muslims greet people with "Salaam" ( peace) or "Asalamalakim" which means peace be upon you. But BadShaah davesh Guru Gobind SIngh Ji has blessed his Sikh with a GUrmukh greeeting of victory "ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਿਹ " not a greeting of peace.

When meeting a fellow Gursikh greet them with the words WaaheGuru JI Ka KHalsa WaaheGUru JI KI Fateh.
Bhai DEsa Singh Ji Rehatnama

Guru Sahib has given us the Fateh, the greeting of victory. We are not looking for peace we are looking for victory. Victory
over those that disrupt peace, and victory for the one true name " WaaheGuru" to prevail everywhere. Many times people say Sat Sri Akal. Sat Sri Akal come from the Victory Jaikara "Bole So Nihal... Sat Sri Akal". It does not make sense to greet others with an incomplete jaikara, nor does it make sense to greet others with the delusion that victory has been obtained. We often recite Sat Sri Akal when meeting strangers of other faiths, or meeting family members and friends. But instead we should be greeting such people with the Gurmukh greeting given to us by Guru Sahib..

Meet the world with the greeting of fateh , and thus impart in them the words WaaHeGuruuu.

Yes without Amrit, chanting WaaheGuru cannot be classified as GUrmat Naam, but still those who listen
and recite Sargun Naam of WaaehGuru get blessed. In Sikhi, the greatest deed is to recite GUrmantar, while the greatest ethic is to acknowledge WaaheGuru Jis jot exist in every being. When we greet others with GUrmukhi greeting we are encouraging others to recite WaaheGuru, and in addition we are acknowledging WaaheGuru Jot exist in them. GUru Sahib say he is the dust of that Gursikh who recites Gurmantar and encourages others to recite Gods name.
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2||

So why do we greet others with their own greeting or manmukhi greetings instead of Gurmukh greeting of Fateh. Bhai Gurdas Ji mentions when one turns away from Hukum ( WaaheGuru Mantar) they follow the Hukum o other people, and greet them according to their greeting ( salaam).

hukamee ba(n)dhaa hoe kai nith out(h) jaae salaam kara(n)dhaa||
Becoming errand boy of man he goes daily to salute him.
Bhai Gurdas Ji Vaar 15

Muslims, Hindus, and Jews never recite another persons greeting yet we are so
quick to assimilate, we use other greetings and completely neglact GUrmukh greeting
blessed by GUru Sahib. THe puratan Singhs would never use another Dharmas greetings
they would always say Fateh when meeting others because victory was always in their mind. For example,
Sri Guru Panth Parkaah

When BHai Taru Singh Ji was met in the Nawabs court
they insisted he say salaam; instead, in a loud voice he would recite Gurus Fateh, and then continue reciting
Akals name ( Guru Guruu).

Saying Khalsa Khalsa they place no hope in others
From their mouth they utter WaaheGuru. The Saintly SInghs renounce meat.
- Sri GUru Sobha

Meaning Sant- Khalsa does not easily assimilate to the malechh and adopt its greetings and diet. . They have no hopes in the ways of others . They never have a mentality of defeat and adapt to the customs of others. Victory of Khalsa is always on their mind and they recite the words Khalsa Khalsa ( WaaheGuru JI Ka Khalsa Waaheguru JI KI Fateh)

Many times people make a custom of Gurus fateh. For example, they recite their nitnem and between each bani they recite
Gurus Fateh which doesnt really make sense. Also they break down the fateh. The fateh is not WaaheGuru Ji Khalsa Waaheguru fateh or Fateh! This is breaking up Gurbani and whoever does so is Tankhiya and a Manmukh. THe proper fateh is WaaheGuru JI Ka KHalsa WaaheGuru Ji KI Fateh or VaaheGuru JI Ka Khalsa VaaheGUru JI KI Fateh. When reciting Gurus Fateh we should do so with an attentive ( alert) mind.

We can follow Sarab Loh Bibek, but if we do not sleep, eat, and breathe with victory on our mind
we are only causing insult to Sarab Loh Bibek. Guru Sahib has placed so much emphasis on fateh they one cannot even eat without reciting fateh ( Bhai Daya Singh Jis rehatnama). Our minds should always be thinking about victory. Victory of the True Name, and Victory over the oppressor.

Bravo to the soul of that person, who remembers the Lord through his mouth and reflects in his mind about the war of righteousness; who considers this body the war of righteousness; who considers this body as transient, ascends the boat of Lords` praise and ferries across the dreadful ocean of the world.

WaaheGuru JI Ka KHalsa
WaaheGuru JI KI Fateh!!!
