Puratan Punjabi

I had a idea..

A lot of Youth find it difficult to understand words in Gurmat Books....

So it would be good if once every 1-2 days that somebody's posts a Puratan Punjabi word so we can implement it in our speaking.
The word and the meaning of it would be required and that's it!

I will start off with

ਲਾਜ਼ਮ - Compulsory, Mandatory, Necessary

No-Bodh

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Excellent idea! May I suggest that users put the word into a simple sentence so we know how to use it.

For example:

ਸਰਬਲੋਹ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਇਕ ਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਰਹਤ ਹੈ

(BTW - Is this right? pardon my bad panjabi)

Wouldn't it be "laazmi" in the context you're using it?

Bhull chukk maaf karni ji.

Should be "ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ"

ਲਾਜ਼ਮ too is used in Urdu/Farsi.

لازم (lâzem) and it means necessary. It's an adjective e.g Lazm Rehit.

I think لازمی (Lazmi) is more used as a noun but it is also used as an Adjective.

Writing ਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਰਹਤ is just fine. I think Bhai Sahib who was adept in Farsi, has used this word ਲਾਜ਼ਮ in his writings.

"complicated" words that Bhai Sahib uses frequently in his books, and "non-basic" Gurbani words would also be most appreciated. This is why I find Jaap Sahib so difficult to understand, when I was trying to do arth of it I had to just basically memorize each word, which was very hard, as it's easier to memorize words when they are in sentence structure. I guess if you do it slowly it'll eventually come to you, maybe this is where we could start?

ਜਜ਼ਬਾ - Feeling, Emotion, Sentiment

Noun

Good word. This word is from Farsi and is often still used while conversing in Punjabi.

Jazba means passion.

Using it in sentence -

ਉਹਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਰੀ ਹੈ।

ਅਜਕਲ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਘਟ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

Daas doesn't thinks that 'Dasmi Patshaah' is the correct word. Generally people born outside Indian tend to use this.

'Das' is Number 10 in punjabi. 'Dasvin' or 'Dasven' is derived from 'Das' to indicate 10th. 'Dasam' is another variation to denote 10th. So 'Dasven Patshah' or 'Dasam Pita' are used to refer to Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj.

ਫਰਜ਼ = responsibility , ones duty
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਿਬਾਉਣ, ਇਕ ਸਿਖ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਹੈ

ਜ਼ਾਲਿਮ = cruel
ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ , ਇਨਸਾਨ ਬੋਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਾਲਿਮ ਸੀ.

ਜ਼ੁਲਮ = atrocities
ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਉਪਰ ਬੋਹੁਤ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ .

ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ = to join, to become apart of something
ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਕੇ , ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ ਦਾ ਹੈ .

ਜ਼ਰੂਰ = will definitely
ਮੈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਅਵਾਗਾ .

ਕਲਪਣਾ actually means to be frustrated, to become dukhi. ਕਲਪਨਾ means to imagine. But sometimes, ਕਲਪਣਾ can be used in meanings of ਕਲਪਨਾ.

It seems the Punjabi kosh I use to research words, from Gurmat books may be slightly incorrect in places.

I have had thought that it is evident, that the Punjabi Bolee is getting swallowed into Hindi.

What possible precautions can be taken?

another forgotten word is "koonjee", which us the Punjabi word for "key". Thes days, everyone says "chaabee" instead, which is a Hindi word.
