There is no harm in reciting Japji Sahib, Shasternama mala, Chandi Di Vaar, etc while Sri Sahib is outside of sheat nor is there anything wrong with doing Ardas with Sri Sahib outside of sheath. There is nothing wrong with giving satkar to shasters. In fact, according to Bhai Randhir Singh Ji its a Bibekee Singhs duty to give satkar to shaster; one cannot be Bibekee Singh unless they give satkar to Sri Sahib nor will such Singhs be successful in the battlefield or the spiritual path without this respect.

When we become Khalsa we become Sons of Guru Gobind Singh ji. He himself says that " Kshatry ko poot hon bahman ko nahin". So we all become Kshatri on the same day and all of other Kuls get NAASh. In Kshatry Dharam, we respect shastars because we love them. They are our everything. they are our "peer". Now when you go and meet a peer, , you bow in front of it, you praise them, you tell them gur balam sakhia that is Gurbani. Shastar in hands of khalsa is not an ordinary shastar. It is Bhaugoti, means power of Waheguru. And your mind need to be thought free and stay in focus with Waheguru when ever you pick a bhaugoti. And thats why you recite bani. BAni is not a feed to shastar. Bani is a feed to your mind that you could use shastar in bhe bhavni of Waheguru. So recite as much bani as you can while holding a shastar. But remember shastar vi Nimrta ch reh ke Uthana. Bani gives you a constant reminder about why you have picked a sword especially when you are holding it. It is not a ritual. It is a part of our life. Even when you die in battle reciting bani keeping dhian of param purakh, you know that you are successful. Picking up a shastar means that you are ready to die for guru sahib.

Dass,

Kawaljit Singh

Sukhdeep Singh virji, what you are quoting is half truth and half silence. Within Shastars, Our Beloved Satguroo abides, and as we follow the path of Sikhi and obey The Commands given to us, we naturally start to respect and appriciate what belongs to Guru Sahib ultimately. Of coures, everything in the universe is His creation, but the icons that represent Our Guru Maharaj will start to become understandable once we engage in Kamaai of Naam-Baani. Without Kamaai, one can not come to understand the significance of Shastars in Sikhi, as most in this world can not either.

As Kirpan Khando Kharrag, Tupk Tapak Ar Teer
Saif Sarothi Saihthi Yehai Hamaarai Peer

There has to be the Jot in the Shastars, which can not be put into words, but first, we need to aim to understand Satguru Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee, rest will be taken care of. I'm sure Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji also explained further why we can not be labeled Bibekee if don't respect Shastars. We can only go so much to explain.

well said KawalJit Singh Veer Ji!!

Bhai Jaspreet Singh Jeeo, it is Hukum to give satkar to Shasters.

How in the world can we be
Bibekee if we dont follow "Hukum"?

I never said it is wrong to disobey the Hukam
of respecting Shastars, however, you have to understand the main job of the Sikh is to Japp Naam, and all these other Hukams revolve around this One Hukam. Respecting Shastars too falls under this, it helps us in engaging in Naam Abhyiaas, without Naam, we can not respect Shastars. Without Naam, there can not be Bir Russ. Without Naam, one can not be fully Sikh. You are taking this in a totally different angle.

Bhai Jaspreet Singh Jeeo,

You are understanding Maryada with a dualistic mind. Japping Naam is part of a Gursikhs
life 24/7. Respecting "Rehat Maryada" is part of a Gursikhs life24/7. They both go hand in hand
and compliment one another. One cannot engage in Naam by neglecting other Hukums ( maryada).
Its this type of mentality which is making ShasterDhari panth more and more into " NaamDhari Panth"
Even during many Amrit Sanchars there is no emphasis on giving due respect to Shasters/Sri Sahib.
This is why we have many people wearing one inch necklaces and referring it to as their Kirpan, or they wear
a 6 inch steel dagger and refer to it as " Sri Sahib". Without due respect to shasters one cannot enter a "lion"
state of fearlessness ( Nirbau Pad) which is needed to engage in Naam Abhyiaas. Without such respect
one remains like a sheep in a state of worldly fear/worriness and gets dragged from direction to direction.

Respect of Shaster does not mean just wearing Sri Sahib as evident in Bhai Daya Singh Jis rehatnamey

You don't understand my point. I didn't say respecting Shastars is of less value, and Naam is more. Without Shastars, one can not be a Sikh. What I'm saying is that it's Kamaai of Naam Baani, there can not be Bir Russ in a Gursikh, hence carrrying Shastars becomes meaningless if one does not
know how to use them. It's only through Naam Baani one will understand the value of Shastars and their importance. We don't want to become like most of the Nihungs who dress all Tyaar bar Tyaar, but there is no Naam. Then such appearance becomes a moiety of Sikhi. This is why Sikhs are Saint-Soldiers.

Jaspreet Singh Jeeo,

You seem to be missing the point. Bibek means non duality ( bib). Reciting Naam is one Hukum, respecting Shasters is one Hukum. Both Hukums go hand in hand and are in harmony with one another. In fact, every single hukum is connected to one another. To separate one Hukum is approaching rehat-maryada in a dualistic manner. In Gurbani, Guru Sahib says Naam abhyiaas is the greatest deed; Guru Sahib also says kirtan is the highest deed. Meaning following Gurus Hukum is the greatest deed. Yes, Naam Abhyiaas is supreme Karam but this deed is not possible without living a life
in strict accordance to other hukums as all hukums from Gurus mouth go hand in hand and to think otherwise is mere foolishness. A person can do all the Naam Simran , kirtan , paath they want, but without respecting shasters they will never be in position of bir raas; instead, they will remain like sheep getting dragged from one direction to the next.

Also, why are you under the impression that Nihangs have no Naam. Many years ago the Baba Raam Singh Ji ( Harian Vela secretary) came to the local Gurdwara to do parchaar. During his stay my friend was attacked by a deadly pit bull. Baba Ji came with such fearlessness he destroyed the pitbull with a single brick and gave so much kirpa to the pit bull and my worrying friend. In fact, he was giving kirpa to the whole sangat present. His presence alone brought complete serenity to the hectic atmosphere. WaaheGurus light shone on his face. Such a shining face is an indication that one japps Gurmat Naam.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਮੁਖ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ॥

Baba Nihal Singh Ji who is also a Nihang SIngh also has a radiant face, and im sure there are many more. Baba Nihaal Singh Ji faced many tortures during 1984. an ordinary person without Naam would go mental without the medicine of Naam during such tortures. Bhai Randhir SIngh Ji mentions in GUrmat BIbek that someone who has naam can go through the worsest tortures and not get effected.

Sukhdeep Singh jeeo

The true war or battle that we all fight is conquering the mind and controlling the five thieves. Only through this, cab we be able to then physically defend ourselves as well as others.
Mun Jitai Jug Jeet

Naam is the greatest weapon of all, it is Naam Kamaai that fills one with Bir Russ, because Naam is the source of this. It is only through Naam, can we able to understand what role weapons play in our lives, and how to use them. It is the Shakti of Naam that makes us the True Soorey, meaning conquering the mind.

Jaa Tun Merai Vai Hai Taan Keyaa Muhchanda
Thudh Sabh Kich Meinu Sonpeya Jaa Teraa Bandaa

If Vaheguru is on our side, what obstacle can come in our way. Yes it is Guru Sahib Hukam to
carry Shastars with us at all times, not only because they can be used to fight tyranny, and that only
through the Akaali Shakti of Naam, but also because these are the Shingaars for Vaheguru, for
His Akaali Roop Darshan, which is our Ultimate Goal.
