I don't know who this Sajid Khan is but he is a very dumb guy. We don't need his approval to teach our kids Shaster Vidya. The Singhs put up an amazing show and this coward just could not sustain the Chardi Kala of Khalsa. Its also refreshing to see such display of Gatka on national TV in India. The audience seem to have loved it. Who cares what this lamb Sajid Khan thinks.

Thanks for sharing this video, Bhai Mehtab Singh jeeo.

Remarks on Gatka
‘India Gate Talent’ judge faces SGPC ire
Varinder Singh/TNS

Amritsar August 2
Irked at the remarks of a judge of a programme, “India Gate Talent”, on Colours TV channel, the SGPC has asked the management of the channel to tender an unconditional apology to the Sikh body and remove the judge Sajid Khan.

Sajid Khan, according to the SGPC chief Avtar Singh, had hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs by his utterances against “Gatka”, the Sikh martial art and the Sikh tradition of carrying arms like swords.

He had also allegedly ousted Manpreet Singh, a 7-year-old Sikh “Gatka” artiste, saying that the display of swords and other weapons linked with the Sikh tradition by Sikh children could instill a sense of violence among children and audience of the programme.

“Gatka is an inseparable part of the Sikism. Nobody can afford to satirise about any of Sikh tradition. Gatka is also a symbol of Sikh spirit and its victory over evil. The management of the channel should tender an apology or face legal action as its programme sought to create a division in the society. The sword is part and parcel of daily life of every Amritdhari Sikh. How can a Sikh even think of living witout it,” said Avtar Singh.

He asked the channel management to remove the programme judge and provide the SGPC with details of the programme.

The leader of the team tried very humbly and in very simple words to explain the philosphy and meaning of a martial art. The question from that man was unexpected. Even then the SINGH JI did well. They made a good show of Khalsa Martial Art. When he says that at our place children are born under the shade of swords, he was depicting his local environment, where everybody is learning Gatka. That is a game, an art. He very nicely told the audience that in the absence of such activities, the child is likely to be attracted towards Drugs and PATIT PUNA.

That judge wanted to show his concern about children and violence. He was ignoring the fact that it was a game and display of an art. What about all other games, children learn under the guidance of parents, like boxing, wrestling etc. In those games, the harm is actually done to the opponent. But Gatka, never harms any body. It is always a show, a display.

Good thoughts Bhai Jasjit Singh jeeo. Your comments make more sense than what we wrote in emotion. I guess this is why, one of the 52 Hukams is that a Sikh should learn Rajneeti (Statesmanship). Whatever response was required was given Baakhoobi (in good way) by the Jathedar of of the Jatha, right there and then. He did a good job. He kept his cool, gave great responses and still in the end offered Sajid Ali a gift.

And it's true that the audience and the two female judges gave full support to the Singhs. One of the woman judges Sonali Bendre would have given even more support but it seems that she did not want to isolate Sajid. The other woman judge gave full support by crying out Jaikaara which was wonderful.

So, as per Vichaars of Bhai Jasjit Singh, I agree that this issue should not be politicized.

I too agree with Veer Jasjit Singh. Rather if the Sangat here, allows me to say; Sajid did not give any direct ill comment about our faith. His reaction simply shows, that the world is ignorant about our real Sant Siphai philosphy. Kirpan controversies, the world over, so often, prove it.

And there is very much likelyhood that they all do it for publicizing the show. We had never noticed that show, minus the controvery about the show.

Kiran Kher is a Punjabi, although I am not sure if she is from a Sikh family. Maybe she is?
