who am i?

i am
grey eyes
white skin
blue veins
red hair falling in wet waves down my back
a river in a foreign land
i am
kirpaan
kanga
kachhera
kara, heavy on my wrist, a constant reminder
keski, waiting to be tied, hanging loose over wet hair
i am
one soul
five items
seven prayers
sava lakh
i am
three qualities i can't escape
five thieves breathing down my back
running won't keep them away
i am
breathing in
breathing out
breathing in
breathing out
vahe
guroo
vahe
guroo
i am
reborn of amrit and sarabloh
lost in keertan
lost in naam
i am
one me
tripping over shadows as amrit vela fades into day
i am

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru bJi Ki Fateh.

Thank you Bhein Ji, for telling about yourself and ourselves. I think, you are Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa.

Who am I?

This is one of the most important question for the Jeev. Without discovering " I ", Vaheguru can never be discovered. Gurbani says that without finding out or discovering the "Self", the net of illusion is not removed:

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪਾ ਚੀਨੈ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Before one can have Darshan of Vaheguru, one must first do Darshan of the Self or Aatma. Bhai Sahib has written that many spiritual seekers think that they have discovered Vaheguru, when they see themselves and they stay stuck in this spiritual state till they discover their mistake. In Jail Chithiaan it is written that before having Darshan of Vaheguru, Bhai Sahib had Darshan of his own illuminated Self but he did not get satisfied at this state since he was looking for something higher. He continued chanting Naam with increased vigour and finally got Darshan of Vaheguru. Vaah!

I don't know much else about the life of Sant Waryam Singh Ratwada but one incident of his life is very interesting. He was very young back then that he went to see Sant Rarewale. Sant jee asked him who he was and at this he stayed quiet for many moments. Sant jee asked him again but still he kept quiet. After he was asked the 3rd time, he innocently replied that he did not know who he was. At this the whole Sangat started laughing but Sant Rarewale got serious and very much appreciated the depth of his answer. Indeed, to truly realize that one does not know oneself, is a great spiritual discovery. From this discovery the serious spiritual journey begins.

Wonderful poem Bhain jeeo and sorry for getting off-topic.

Daas,
Kulbir Singh
