ਮੈਂ ਦੋਹਾਗਣ, ਛੁਟੜ ਨਾਰੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ,
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਖਬਰ ਨਾ ਪਾਈ, ਦਰ ਦਰ ਧਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਅਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਣ, ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਡਾਇਣ, ਅਤਿ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਲ ਲਾਇਣ,
ਨਰਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਬਹ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕੁਰਲਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਦਰ ਕਰੀ ਸੀ ਗੂੜੀ, ਦਿਤੀ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਰੂੜੀ
ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦਾਤ ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੀ, ਅਜਾਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਕਲਯੁਗ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾ ਖਾ ਥਕੀ , ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੰਡ ਭਾਰੀ ਚਕੀ,
ਪੰਜ ਚੋਰ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਡਰਾਵਣ, ਸੁਣ ਜਮ ਦਲ ਮੁਰਝਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਸੁਣਿਆ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ, ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗ ਓਹ ਤਰਦੇ,
ਮੂਰਖ ਬਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੰਸਾਂ ਬੈਠੀ, ਕਰ ਰੀਸਾਂ ਨਾ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਮਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਸੰਤ ਹੰਸ ਵੇਖ ਖਿੜ ਖਿੜ ਹਸਦੇ, ਬਧਾ ਚੱਟੀ ਵੇਖ ਓਹ ਦਸਦੇ,
ਏਤੈ ਵੇਸ ਕੰਤ ਵਸ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ, ਇੰਜ ਨਾ ਕੰਤ ਰੀਝਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਹੁਣ ਉਪਾਵ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੇ ਕੋਈ, ਗੁਰ ਅਗੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਰ ਅਰਜੋਈ,
ਏਕਲੜੀ ਬਨ ਘਨਾ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ, ਪਾਓ ਮਾਰਗ ਸਚ ਰਾਹਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

ਕਰ ਗੁਣਵੰਤ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਜੀਓ, ਬਣਾਂ ਨਾ ਫਿਰ ਦੋਹਾਗਣ ਜੀਓ,
ਮੇਲੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਿਆ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਜੀਓ, ਬਲ ਬਲ ਬਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਜੀਓ।

This is mind-blowing!!

Subhaan! Subhaan! Balihaar! Balihaar!

The author is naturally gifted with not only writing lofty Gurmat content but also writing in poetic flow while keeping the Tavaazan (balance, metre) of the poem intact.

We hope to hear many more poems from our Birhe-Bairaagni Bhain.

Would you be able to translate this into english? Just so that the less fluent persons in punjabi can understand this poem too. I can read it, but there are a couple of words that I don't know the meanings of. Sounds like a really good poem though. The selection words is pretty good too.

ਛੁਟੜ - woman who has been abandoned by her husband.
ਕੁਚੀਲ - dirty, one who wears dirty clothes.
ਗੋਤੇ - drowning
ਬਧਾ ਚੱਟੀ - Doing something without having interest in it.
ਰੀਸਾਲੂ - House of Rass. Beloved one who is full of Rass.
ਬਗ - Pakhandi bird - crane.

Definitely it does not mean promiscuous. It means a woman who is not clean or wears unclean clothes.

well i think this poem shouldn't be targeted only at the female gender, it implies pretty well to guys aswell. smiling smiley let's not be sexist here. and.......it's not possible to wear clean clothes all the time.

Considering Akal Purakh as Husband Lord and all human beings as women; leaves no option in poetry for the second gender of humanity. There is no man except Him accordingly. So I do not think it could be termed as disrespect for women. Rather, Guru Sahib has preferred this gender to explain our preferred ideal relation with Akal Purakh. This man woman analogy has been used in Gurbani, we know that. So, it is a big honor for women in Gurbani. All are advised to behave women like.

May be I am not able to understand the point, Bhein Ji wanted to convey.

As a side note, I remember a controversy here. Few years ago, a detailed article was written by a writer in a journal published by Jawadi Kalan, Ludhiana people. One of the points raised in his article was that in Gurbani, woman gender is portrayed as of a society which is not acceptable today. Woman is given a second and lower grade position in many of Its symbols. The article received criticism a lot. The author has to ask for forgiveness.

As far as the word KUCHHEEL is concerned, it is used for both genders as adjective and does not imply dirty clothes only. Dirty actions (Chhaal=Movement) probably are also covered in its meaning.

okay good, the word chutarh (woman who has been abandoned by her husband)......the more suitable definiton of the word then should be 'soul woman who has been abandoned by her Husband Lord).
